Here's the petition for forwarding to your friends:

Vote for an independent probe in Sri Lanka!

In days, the UN will table a resolution calling on Sri Lanka to investigate massive human rights violations committed in the last stages of the civil war. But asking Sri Lanka to investigate itself has proven meaningless. That’s why we need to force the UN to act.

Both sides committed serious atrocities in a 26 year civil war which ended with the government defeating the Tamil Tiger rebels. The rebels targeted civilians and abducted children to recruit as soldiers. But the government also gathered civilians in specially designated zones and then shelled them. Atrocities against Tamils have continued -- with reports of rapes, torture and more deaths. Over 100,000 Tamils are still unaccounted for and crucially the government refuses to allow independent observers into the area to investigate. That’s why the only way to get justice for Tamils in Sri Lanka is through an independent probe into such atrocities. When the UN Human Rights Council members meet on 22 March, they can make that happen.

Please sign and share this petition now to gather global solidarity and pressure the UN.
